About

Why we built markupp: knowledge should find you back.

Every team has the same graveyard: notes written once and never found again, folders nobody agrees on, and a wiki that is out of date the day after it is written. Note apps ask you to be the librarian.

markupp moves that job to the server. You write markdown, it links, groups and indexes everything, and now your AI agents can read what your team already knows before they act, and write down what they learn.

markdown + up. Notes are plain markdown files with your own paths. The up is the server, always on and doing the work: it indexes, links and groups every note so that any client sees the same organized knowledge.

omakase. At a sushi counter, omakase (お任せ) means “I leave it up to you”: you trust the chef with the menu. Omarchy took the same idea to Arch Linux and shipped an opinionated setup you can trust out of the box. The idea is laid out in Omakase Computing.

markupp does that for knowledge. Leave it to the chef: you do not decide how a note is stored, where it lives or what it should link to. We store it, link it to the notes it relates to, group the related ones into communities and keep everything searchable by meaning, for you and for your agents. Your markdown stays yours, untouched.

What we believe

  1. 01

    The server does the work

You write and save. Indexing, linking and grouping happen on the server, and the result is the same for every client.

  2. 02

    No privileged client

The web panel, your editor and your agents are all clients of the same API. The server never assumes which ones exist.

  3. 03

    Your content is untouched

The organization is derived. markupp never rewrites your notes or moves your files, so plain markdown stays plain markdown.

  4. 04

    AI first, by design

Every operation available to a person is available to an AI agent through the same interface, with the same permissions.

  5. 05

    Find by meaning

Search finds the note about the subject even when the word you typed is not in it, and returns the passage that matched.

  6. 06

    Open by default

Open source under AGPL v3, self-hostable with one command, and priced so readers and agents never pay.

Built in the open

The code, the architecture decisions and the roadmap live in the public repository. Issues and pull requests are welcome.
